Built for an Evolving Business
Moonstone Studio began as a custom ecommerce shop for handcrafted ritual oils and bath salts, but it was always intended to grow beyond a single storefront. The website was designed as a foundation—one that could support new products, new services, and new ways for customers to engage with the business over time.
Rather than optimizing for a fixed moment, the project focused on creating a flexible system that could evolve alongside the studio without sacrificing clarity or consistency.
The Shop at the Beginning
The original storefront was designed to welcome customers with more than a catalog. Featured products introduced seasonal favorites, while multiple paths into the shop encouraged exploration based on scent, collection, or personal intention. Rather than asking visitors to know exactly what they wanted, the experience invited discovery from the very first page.
More Than a Storefront
Rather than presenting a single product grid, the storefront offered multiple ways to explore. Visitors could browse featured products, discover scents by intention, or begin with a collection that matched what they were looking for. The goal wasn't simply to display products—it was to create an experience that encouraged curiosity and made exploration feel natural.
Giving Every Scent Its Own Identity
Each scent collection was designed as its own destination, complete with a distinct color palette, iconography, and descriptive profile. Rather than functioning as simple product categories, these collections helped communicate the character and intention behind each fragrance, making it easier for customers to find one that resonated with them.
Following the Story to the Product
That visual identity continued beyond the scent collection page. Archives adopted the same colors and design language, while individual product pages carried the experience. Helpful information was organized into clear, tabbed sections, allowing customers to learn about the product, explore the scent's unique qualities, and understand its intended use without losing the context established at the beginning of their journey.
Another Way to Find What Fits
As the collection grew, we added another way to explore it: by intention. Instead of starting with a product or scent, customers can begin with what they’re looking for — from grounding and rest to confidence, connection, and creativity.
Each intention brings together products that support that experience, with descriptions that give each one more context. A custom live search makes the growing list easier to explore, looking beyond intention names to the language within their descriptions and the scents connected to their products. The result is a more intuitive path through the collection, built around what someone needs rather than what they already know to look for.
Making Room for New Growth
MoonStone began as an online shop, but the business didn't stay there. As Reiki became a larger part of the work, the website needed to support a different kind of experience.
Services brought new needs: space to explain the practice, introduce the practitioner, and give people a clear path from learning about Reiki to scheduling a session.
Rather than fitting that work into the existing shop, we expanded the website around what the business was becoming.
A Place for the Practice
As Moonstone expanded beyond products, dedicated service pages created space to introduce Reiki in a thoughtful, approachable way. Visitors could learn about the practice, understand what to expect during a session, and decide whether it felt right for them before taking the next step.
From Learning to Scheduling
Once visitors were ready to book, scheduling became a seamless continuation of the experience. Rather than sending people to an external booking platform immediately, the calendar was embedded directly into the service page, allowing them to move from learning to scheduling without losing context.
Giving the Experience as a Gift
Gift certificates introduced a new way to share what Moonstone offers, whether that means choosing something from the shop or experiencing a Reiki session.
We built a custom system with options for general Moonstone gift certificates as well as certificates specifically for Reiki. Each can include a personal message and be delivered digitally through a styled HTML email or generated as a printable PDF to give in person. Every certificate receives its own code for redemption through the website, connecting the flexibility of online gifting with something that can still be shared by hand.
Structure without Rigidity
MoonStone's website is built around a custom content system designed to provide structure without fixing the business in place.
Pages are assembled from a defined set of reusable sections, each built around a particular kind of content or function. The system creates consistency across the website while still allowing pages to take the form their content requires.
The admin experience was shaped around the same principle. Page settings and SEO controls were added directly where they were needed, without introducing additional plugins or systems for features the website could support itself.
As MoonStone changes, the structure can change with it. New needs don't have to be anticipated years in advance or forced into an existing template. The system can expand when those needs become real.
