About the Project

Studio Schicketanz is an award-winning architecture firm based in Carmel, California, specializing in residential architecture along the Central Coast and beyond. With a body of work spanning architecture, interiors, and sustainable design, their website needed to give the imagery and ideas behind that work plenty of room to speak for themselves.

Working from a completed visual design provided by another agency, our role was to bring that experience to life on the web. We developed the site around a custom content management system, building the templates and content structures needed to support an extensive portfolio, team profiles, press and publications, video, and the broader story of the firm.

The result is a highly visual website built to handle a substantial amount of content without allowing the system behind it to compete with the work being presented.

What We Did

Built Around the Work

For an architecture firm, the portfolio is the heart of the website. Studio Schicketanz needed a way to present a large body of work without forcing every project into the same visual mold.

We developed a flexible project system that allowed photography and project information to be arranged around the needs of the individual work. Projects could tell their own stories through different combinations of imagery and content, while still remaining part of a consistent overall experience.

The result gives each project room to breathe while keeping the firm’s broader portfolio easy to explore.

Giving Every Project Its Own Story

While the portfolio archive makes the firm’s work easy to explore, the individual project pages are where each project can unfold in greater detail.

We built these pages to accommodate different combinations of photography and content rather than relying on a single rigid layout. Large architectural images could take center stage, while supporting details could be arranged around the needs of each project.

That flexibility gave Studio Schicketanz a consistent framework for presenting its work without making every project feel the same.

More Than a Portfolio

Studio Schicketanz’s work had also received extensive coverage in print, online publications, and video. The website needed a way to bring that recognition together without treating it as an afterthought.

We developed the Press section to accommodate different kinds of media within one organized experience, from featured publications and magazine covers to video and links to coverage elsewhere online.

Like the project portfolio, the structure gives the firm room to continue adding to its story over time without having to rethink the page each time something new appears.

The People Behind the Work

Studio Schicketanz’s portfolio may be at the center of the website, but the practice is more than the projects it produces. The About section needed to bring together the firm’s story, areas of expertise, team, and recognition without turning a substantial amount of information into an overwhelming page.

We developed the experience around those different kinds of content, including a structured team directory that gives each person a consistent place within the site while making the larger studio easy to explore.

The result gives visitors a fuller picture of the practice—connecting the architecture they’ve seen throughout the site with the people, experience, and perspective behind it.

Architecture at Any Scale

The visual character of the provided design relies heavily on space, large-format photography, and carefully composed layouts. Bringing that experience to smaller screens meant more than simply shrinking what worked on desktop.

We adapted layouts, navigation, imagery, and media to work naturally across screen sizes while preserving the character of the original design. From project photography to video and editorial content, each part of the experience needed to remain clear and engaging without the space available on a larger screen.

The result is a website that feels considered at any size, rather than a desktop experience simply made to fit.
